Best CBI for a family: Antigua new requirements for dependents
What is the best citizenship for a family? Where do you go when trying to move abroad with your loved ones? After the recent changes in the Caribbean, Mundo continues to analyze the CBI scenery in the region. One of the countries that has applied amendments beyond pricing is Antigua and Barbuda. We analyze who are the dependents that Antigua and Barbuda allows from now on.
Finding the best CBI for a family: throwing light on Antigua new requirements
Many surprises have arisen after the Caribbean CBI countries signed the memorandum of agreement. Since day one we all knew that they were bound to apply changes starting June 30th, but not all cases could meet the deadline.
These processes take time, and this was the case, for example, in Saint Lucia. The Helen of the West Indies was the last one to sign the agreement. Since the beginning, the government announced its intention to sign the document but argued that needed more time to assess its implications.
For a few weeks, the CBI world was waiting to see what would happen, in the meantime, the applications kept coming. Finally, and like many had foreseen, Saint Lucia entered the agreement putting an end to an interesting yet fleeting window of opportunity.
Antigua new requirements also took some time, as by July 30th, the parliament was not ready to sign and approve the new law. As a result, changes were not implemented on July 1st, as expected, but a month later.
Regardless of the reasons for the delay, the government and the regulator had enough time to assess the pricing panorama and make decisions. Now the best CBI for a family continues to be Antigua, although with higher prices.
Prices
Real estate: $300,00
Donation: $230,000
Business: $400,000
Alternatives (University of the West Indies): $260,000
Amendments concerning Antigua dependents were also applied which constituted a particular initiative of the said country.
Who are the dependents allowed according to Antigua new requirements
In this section, we'll see why Antigua continues to be the best citizenship for a family. It always maintained a friendly approach in this regard and now the requirements have become more flexible. Let's see what's new under the Antiguan sun.
What are dependents: children
Who are the dependents that you can add as your children in Antigua and Barbuda? Firstly, the age limit has been extended to 30 years for biological or adopted children. The novelty is that the condition of proving financial dependency is no longer required. Any of your children up to 30 years old can apply along with you.
What are dependents: the spouse
Antigua new requirements also concern spouses. The novelty here is that spouses who get married after the application has been approved can apply, as long as they're not older than 35. Now that Antigua and Barbuda allows to consider marriage after approval the program has earned a new level of flexibility that attracts many families.
What are dependents: alternative applicant
The best CBI for a family allows you to take the necessary measures if you want to keep your family safe. Now Antigua and Barbuda allows for the appointment of an alternative main applicant. The only condition is that he or she has to be older than 18 years. This person will take over in case of decease or incapacitation.
Antigua new requirements come with new prices
As you can see on the chart above, the only option that remains exactly the same is the possibility to apply through a business. Nevertheless, this alternative continues to be the most expensive one in the region.
The donation was increased to $ 230,000 which places Antigua and Barbuda in a midpoint between Dominica and Grenada. On the other hand, the real estate minimum has been increased to $300,000, also a competitive position and a nice compromise between Dominica and the more expensive Saint Kitts. That is, Antigua and Barbuda is not only the best citizenship for a family but also the second cheapest for donation.
