Mundo’s country assessment: Panama
A practical framework for assessing Panama: personal circumstances, day-to-day life, banking, business and professional advice. No current numerical rating is asserted.

Assess Panama against the decision you need to make
A country score cannot tell you whether a move, company, bank account or investment is right for your circumstances. Start with the people, assets and obligations involved, then test each part of the plan separately.
A note on the earlier rating
An earlier version of this page displayed numerical ratings and a combined total that could not be reconciled with the listed categories. We have retired that score rather than present an unsupported replacement. This page is a planning checklist, not a current country ranking or a prediction of investment performance.
Personal safety and everyday life
Compare the specific places where you would live, work and travel. Consider transport, healthcare access, schooling, language, accessibility and emergency arrangements. A short visit, current local information and conversations with several residents can help identify questions that a national average cannot answer.
- Which neighbourhoods and transport routes would you use regularly?
- What health insurance and medical services would your household need?
- How would school, work and family commitments fit the move?
Residence, tax and reporting
Keep immigration permission, tax residence and banking documentation as separate questions. Ask qualified advisers to consider both Panama and every other country connected with your circumstances. Do not treat a residence document or a bank account as proof that obligations elsewhere have ended.
- What is the intended purpose and duration of your stay?
- Which current programme rules and documents need to be checked?
- What advice do you need in your current country before changing arrangements?
Banking and access to funds
Build the banking plan around the account holder, source of funds, expected transactions, currencies and access needs. Ask the proposed institution to confirm its current requirements, charges and decision process in writing. Separate ordinary deposits from investments and custody arrangements.
Read the Panama banking preparation checklist.
Business, property and execution
Assess the actual business or property, not a general description of the country. Identify the responsible provider, obtain independent document review, and understand costs, ongoing administration and exit options before signing or transferring funds.
- Who is responsible for each stage, and what evidence confirms completion?
- Which assumptions depend on approval from a bank, authority or third party?
- What would you do if the timing, cost or outcome differs from the plan?

Before you make a decision
These guides provide background, not confirmation of service availability. Rules, eligibility and costs should be checked for your situation.
