Those who appreciate symbolism may consider a very appealing fact that Panama is reopening its borders on the very same day that Columbus arrived in America more than 500 years ago.

From this October 12th Panama will allow tourists to enter the country again.

Up until this day, only citizens and official residents could enter Panama and only having a Covid-19 negative test from the last 72 hours and they were obliged to quarantine for 14 days after their arrival with the risk of a 50,000 USD fine.

Panama has done a good job in protecting their citizens from the spread of the virus with different measures and lockdowns, and for this reason now the country is ready to reopen for tourism.

From 12th October nonresidents and tourists will be allowed into Panama providing they have a negative test for Covid-19 form the past 48 hours and the best news are: they won’t be required to quarantine.

If you have a valid certificate that proves you are free of Covid then you can enter and immediately freely move across the country for whatever is the purpose of your trip, business, tourism, migration or visit.

If you don´t have a covid-19 test

(the decree contemplates this option as well) you will have the choice to take a test upon your arrival in Panama, obviously at your own expense. If your test is positive, then you will be required to quarantine for seven days in a hotel especially prepared and approved by the Health Ministry of Panama.

New opportunities reopen

In the same way Columbus came to America and opened the doors of a new world of opportunities for the European entrepreneurs, new doors are opening in Panama from October 12th this year.

Neighbor countries such as Colombia or Argentina are still struggling with the increase in covid cases and some of these countries are still imposing lockdowns and restrictions. Panama, on the other hand, is reopening and actually on 28th September all restaurants, shopping malls and fondas reopened and started to offer their services again.

Also, the government is supporting the tourist and travel industries and particularly the airlines, making flights cheaper and encouraging people to travel.
