Visas You Can Apply for
Determined to attract qualified and skilled personnel for various departments and occupations, Australia has developed different programs aimed at strengthening its workforce. With this in mind, we would like to introduce you to the visas you can access through our Global Talent Employer-Sponsored Program:
a)Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (Subclass 482)
This visa program was born in 2018 and is aimed at allowing Australian employers to "sponsor" a foreign national to work as their employees in Australia. The key to this and many of the other existing work visa programs in Australia is that the employer is not able to find an Australian employee with sufficient skill for the work to be performed.
As the name suggests, this visa gives primacy to the skills and potential contribution that the foreign national may have to the job in which he/she is employed, and subsequently, to the country in general.
-Short-Term and Mid-Term Visas
This visa is divided into two depending on its duration: A short-term visa, with a duration of up to 2 years; and a medium-term visa, which contains a time extension of up to 4 years. The visa you should apply for will vary depending on the occupation you hold, understanding that for each type of visa, there is a list of occupations. Your visa will depend on which list your occupation is on.
-Labour Agreement Stream
This visa is for skilled workers nominated by employers who have a Labour Agreement. It lets you live and work in Australia temporarily. Labor agreements are developed between the Australian Government and employers.
b)Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189):
This visa lets invited workers with skills required by the Australian government, to live and work permanently anywhere in Australia. This type of visa is probably the more desirable given its flexibility.
To apply for this visa, you’ll need to be under 45 years old, to get at least 65 points in the immigration test, and have an occupation on the Medium and Long-term Skills List.
c)Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190):
This visa lets nominated skilled workers to live and work in Australia as permanent residents. An important issue about this type of visa is that you only can apply if you have been nominated by a State or territory government.
Besides the nomination, you will also need to be under 45 years old, to get a score of at least 65 points on the immigration test, and have an occupation on the Short-Term Skills List. If you have been successful in securing the State’s nomination, you’ll receive 5 extra points in your application test.
d)Skill Work Regional Visa (Subclass 491):
This is a provisional visa. It is for skilled workers who want to live and work in regional Australia. This visa has a duration of up to 5 years. Just like in other types of visas we have talked about, you’ll have to be under 45 years old and having an occupation on the Occupation Lists.
You’ll need to be either sponsored by an eligible relative or by the State or territory government agency. One of the main advantages of this type of visa is that after 3 years, you’ll be able to apply for a permanent residence visa.
Leaving everything in your home country can be a difficult decision, but the opportunities for you in a safe, stable, economically strong, and growing country are there to be explored.
