There are a handful of special dates we celebrate equally worldwide. Independence Day, Victory Day, and similar holidays are specific to each country. Yet some holidays have managed to surpass the political borders and become endearing celebrations across the globe, or at least in most countries. To name a few, we have January 1st, Labor Day, and one we celebrated quite recently: International Women's Day.
In order to say happy international Women's Day to all the brave girls and gals who help make the world a better place, we chose to dedicate an article to them. For this, we went to one of our favorite destinations, Saint Kitts and Nevis, which has been featured in several of our sections including citizenship and residency, asset protection and trusts, and corporate services.
Reading the Saint Kitts Observer, we learned about the special event held to celebrate women day, so let's have a glimpse at the Federation and their outstanding ladies.
Saint Kitts and Nevis Celebrates International Women's Day with a Ceremony
First, let's talk about the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, one of the most important countries in the region and a pillar when it comes to citizenship by investment. It boasts the oldest program and several other advantages for international investors and global businesspeople.
The island of Nevis is home to the famous Nevis trust which has been dubbed the Fort Knox of trusts due to its impenetrability. This is possible thanks to the solid local legislation which protects against foreign rulings.
The federation is composed of two islands, Saint Kitts, where you will find more developed infrastructure, and the country's capital, and Nevis, with its quieter atmosphere.
Saint Kitts and Nevis is home to a profound culture and an advanced society which was consolidated by the local men and, of course, women. The latter were honored in March in an event attended even by the head of state.
International Women's Day Celebration in Saint Kitts and Nevis
According to the Observer, the ceremony was at Sugar Apple and five women were awarded for their contribution to St Kitts society and economy. These are Marva Weeks, a fashion entrepreneur, Xavienne Richardson for sustainable development, Kamilah Lawrence in creative media, Sergeant Charmaine Audain for human services, and Kerissa Roberts for STEM. Furthermore, Crannie Cranston got an empowerment award and Avonelle Martin was granted the Prime Minister’s award.
One of the awarded women is Marva Weeks, who is recognized for taking the St Kittian culture abroad and combining it with modern items. Based in Miami, she promotes her country’s culture through her clothing brand.
Marva Weeks, together with Jay Weeks launched this brand in 2009, and they've done more than designing nice clothes: they made significant contributions to artists, sports teams, and schools.
The Prime Minister and The Minister of Gender Affairs Celebrate Women Day And Honor Their Heroes
The honorable Isalean Phillip, minister of state and responsible for gender affairs, congratulated these deserving women and stated the government’s commitment in continuing to support them and others like them.
Also, the Prime Minister Terrance Drew was present highlighting the integral role these women had in shaping Saint Kittian and Nevisian society. He added that they are an inspiration not only for women, but also for men and for all the country. Then, he thanked them for their contribution and sacrifices and encouraged them to continue their work.
